Rise and Shine

A program for school community

School Community

The Rise and Shine Program at Northwest Heights Elementary greets students, staff, and visitors with music, singing, and praises of success. The opening program, held at 8:10 A.M., blends the traditional pledge of allegiance with uplifting songs, a weather report, announcements, success celebrations, and even a joke or two—all generated by students.

Students participating in Rise and Shine

NWH teachers and students GREATLY APPRECIATE the caring people in our community, our VOLUNTEERS and PARENTS, who give their time and a piece of their heart to our school. THANK YOU!

Our VOLUNTEERS, PARENTS and STAFF are EXCEPTIONAL people who go above and beyond the call of duty!

The 10-15 minute program is student directed behind the scenes by the Rise and Shine Team which is comprised of several third grade students who assist selected second grade student helpers. Designed to be student-centered, all children at our school will have an opportunity to participate in this opening program at some time during the year.

The program begins with the upbeat music as Rise and Shine Team members broadcast an invitation on the intercom. During the program, a student reads the lunch menu for the day. Another student tells a joke, quote or riddle. Yet another student gives the weather report obtained from the radio, television, or Internet. Music ends the program as students are dismissed.

School Creed
I believe in myself.
I will make my dreams come true.
Who I am, and what I will be is up to me.
My job is to do my best, ask when I need help,
and know that I will make it.
This is my time and my place.
I accept the challenge to learn.
School Song
(to the tune of You're a Grand Ol' Flag)
You're a grand ol' school.
You're a high-ranking school.
You're the best in the south, we all say.
Here the kids are smart, and do their part,
we're loyal to you everyday.
Every heart beats true for our own colors too,
you're the best school in every way.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
but our school is here to stay,
NORTHWEST HEIGHTS!!!
