The Rise and Shine Program at Northwest Heights Elementary greets students, staff, and visitors with music, singing, and praises of success. The opening program, held at 8:10 A.M., blends the traditional pledge of allegiance with uplifting songs, a weather report, announcements, success celebrations, and even a joke or two—all generated by students.
Rise and Shine creates a sense of community within the school.
We are a family at NWH!
We celebrate successes together. Many assemblies and other events, aside from class time, take place in our gymnasium. Our wonderful PSO, Parent Support Organization, raised money and purchased a nice cabinet to house technology equipment in the gym.
Thank you, PSO parents!
The 10-15 minute program is student directed behind the scenes by the Rise and Shine Team which is comprised of several third grade students who assist selected second grade student helpers. Designed to be student-centered, all children at our school will have an opportunity to participate in this opening program at some time during the year.
The program begins with the upbeat music as Rise and Shine Team members broadcast an invitation on the intercom. During the program, a student reads the lunch menu for the day. Another student tells a joke, quote or riddle. Yet another student gives the weather report obtained from the radio, television, or Internet. Music ends the program as students are dismissed.
