Rhetoric competition and theatric production
Competitive Speech
The Speech Team competes in Class 4A of the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activity Association (OSSAA) sanctioned speech competitions. Students can compete in an of the eleven individual events:
- Acting events
- Humorous duet, dramatic duet, humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, and monologue
- Speech events
- Original oratory, standard oratory, domestic extemporary, and foreign extemporary
- Interpretive reading events
- Poetry (11th and 12th grades) and prose (9th and 10th grades)
Drama
The drama club at DHS puts on several theatrical productions every year. The plays come from a variety of classical, modern, and original sources. The drama club carries out the entire production from acting, staging, set design, and costumes.
Peggy Worden holds an award she received for her contributions to DHS drama and speech.
