ANNOUNCEMENTS: March 22, 2010  
* Sub V Baseball will play Valliant at 4:30.  
* Any Junior interested in taking classes at SOSU next year should see a counselor.  
* Students entering grades 10, 11, or 12 in the Fall interested in attending the 2010 Youth Forensics Academy July 12-16, 2010 at ECU should see the counselors for an application.  
* Oklahoma Girls State will be May 30 – June 5, 2010 at the University of Oklahoma.  Junior girls interested should contact the counselors as soon as possible.   
* It is time to recommend juniors for Boys State.  It will be May 29-June 5, 2010 at NEO in Miami, OK.  The cost is $175. If you have a junior boy who is interested, please let me know.  
* ATTENTION DURANT HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS! Bring pictures of yourself and friends, and a baby picture of yourself to the office. Cut off date is April 1.  
* All students need to be wearing their ID badges.  
 
Contests, Classes and Conferences and Misc.  
 
* East Central University is sponsoring the 2010 Youth Forensics Academy July 12-16, 2010 for students entering grades 10, 11, or 12 in the Fall.  Students must have a 2.5 GPA.  This academy is free to all eligible students.  Applications are available in the counselor’s office.  Deadline is March 30, 2010.  
* The University of Oklahoma is offering a “Going Green” Summer Academy to next years high school juniors and seniors.  This is a one week opportunity to study the process for “designing and building green” within the five built environment programs in The University of Oklahoma’s College of Architecture.  All expenses, including room, board, supplies and books will be provided to each academy student.  Travel expenses to and from the academy location and incidental personal expenditures are the responsibility of the student.  The application deadline is March 30, 2010.  Applications can be picked up in counselor’s office.  
*  The University of Oklahoma is offering a “Bridges to College Math, Science and Engineering” Summer Academy to next years high school juniors and seniors.  This is a one week opportunity to receive hands-on experience in some basic areas of mathematics that undergird the college study of physics, engineering and mathematics.  All expenses, including room, board, supplies and books will be provided to each academy student.  Travel expenses to and from the academy location and incidental personal expenditures are the responsibility of the student.  The application deadline is March 30, 2010.  Applications can be picked up in counselor’s office.  
* Southeastern Oklahoma State University admissions and enrollment will be on DHS campus on April 8th to enroll juniors planning to take concurrent classes next year.  Juniors should sign up for an appointment in the office as soon as possible.  Students will be given the list of steps for admissions and enrollment when they sign up.  
* Seniors planning to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University in the fall will be able to complete their admissions and enrollment on April 8th at the college.  SOSU has designated this date at DHS student enrollment day.  
* Southwestern Oklahoma State University will be hosting a free Summer Science and Mathematics Academy in Weatherford, Oklahoma.   Current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students are eligible to attend.  Interested students should contact the counselors for more information and an application.  
* The Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Elks and Oklahoma State Troopers Association are sponsoring the 37th Annual Oklahoma Cadet Lawman Academy June 6-12, 2010 Burns Flat, Oklahoma.  Juniors in the top 50% of their class are eligible to apply.  Interested juniors should contact the counselors for an application.  The application deadline is April 1, 2010.  
* Oklahoma State University is offering a free Aerospace Education Academy June 6 – 19, 2010.  Sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply.  Please see the counselors for applications or students may view information regarding this and other academies and applications online at http://www.okhighered.org/student-center/jrhigh-highscl/summer-academies.shtml  
* University of Oklahoma is sponsoring the Society of Women Engineers High School Girl’s Day conference on Saturday, April 3, 2010.  Registration fee of $10.00 covers t-shirt, food, speakers, and door prizes.   Registration form is available in the counselor’s office.  Registration deadline is Friday, March 26, 2010.  
* The University of Oklahoma will be hosting Junior Days on April 2 and April 24, 2010.  Online registration for this event begins March 5 at www.ou.edu/go2/jrday  Space is limited – Don’t miss your chance.  
* Venture Scholars’ - Networking Tool for Math and Science Diversity Students  
Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) high school and college undergraduate scholars with an interest in Math or Science should check out the Ventures Scholars Program. Ventures Scholars is a national membership program designed to help underrepresented and first-generation college-bound students interested in pursuing math- and science-based careers build an online linking network of information, resources, and opportunities that will help them successfully pursue their career goals. CNO students who meet Venture Scholars requirements should email the Choctaw Scholarship Advisement Program (SAP) at collegeprep@choctawnation.com to be nominated for the program.

* Alpha Gamma Rho Bob Oehrtman Scholarship applications are available in the office for students planning to attend OSU.  The organization will award four $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors.  Interested students should contact the counselors.  Application deadline is April 2, 2010.  
* Horseman's Association Texoma is offering two scholarships, $500 & $400 to graduating seniors who are actively involved in equine activities. Applications are available in the office or online at www.hat-texoma.org. Application deadline is April 23, 2010.  
* Bacone College is offering two new scholarships.  The Opportunity Scholarship is 25% off tuition, room and board renewable up to four years. The Success Scholarship is 35% off tuition, only and is renewable up to four years as well.  Students interested in Bacone College should contact the counselors as soon as possible to begin the admissions process.  
* The  
* Briggs Memorial Foundation Scholarship applications are available in the counselor’s office.  There will be three $500 scholarships given to graduating seniors in southeastern Oklahoma.  The application must be received in the Lions State Office prior to April 1, 2010.  A completed application form, two letters of recommendation, and a transcript are required.

* Peterson’s Student Edge program is offering free online access to the college selection, test prep, homework help, and financial aid tools to get started on the road to success.  Beginning September 1, you have a chance to win scholarship money and money for your school.  Every two weeks the school with the most new registrations will win $1000.  Student, parent, and administrator registrations count toward the contest.  Each week the student with the most logins will win $1000 in scholarship money.  Please see counselors for more information and access cards.
