Announcements: Friday, February 3  
 
* Seniors: If you have not ordered your cap and gown you still have time. Cap and gown orders must be placed through Jostens. You can call them at 888-789-2052.  
* Announcements and other graduation items can still be ordered online at Jostens.com. If you have questions please contact Jostens at Rick.Lierman@jostens.com . You may also see the counselors if you have any questions.  
FRIDAY  
* Advisory is today.  
* There will be a pep rally today at 2:45pm.  
* Friday, February 3 is the deadline for Seniors to turn in their Senior Bio’s and Senior Favorites. Bring those to Mrs. Bond, Room 210.  
* JV/V Basketball will play Hugo at 4/6:30pm.  
SATURDAY  
* JV/V Basketball will play Atoka at 11am/1:30pm.  
FEBRUARY  
* The 8th grade parent/student orientation is scheduled for Monday, February 6, at 6:30p.m.  
* Credit Recovery night school registration is February 7 and classes start on February 9. Night classes will be held at Vision Academy from 4:00 to 7:00p.m. Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The cost for ALL students is $150.00 per semester credit or if the student qualifies for free or reduced lunches the cost is reduced to $100.00 per semester credit. Applications are available now in the counselor’s office.  
* Tuesday, February 7—High Schools That Work Assessment with the “SUPER 60”. Durant High School Lecture Hall -8:30-11:30.

* Love Is Not Abuse Day will take place on Friday, February 10. Join DECA during lunch and sign the Love Is Not Abuse banner, take a pledge card and have a cookie!  
* The Drama Club will present “A Tribute to Carol Burnett” Dessert Theater Friday, February 10 6:00 p.m. at DHS Auditorium. Tickets $7.00 Children 5 and under free. Carry out will be available. Tickets may be purchased from any drama student or by calling 580-916-5111.  
* Pre-enrollment for grades 8 through 11 will be on Thursday, February 16. Parents will receive a letter with more information by the first of February.  
* The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test will be given on Thursday, February 23 starting at 12:00 noon. This is the military entrance exam. Juniors and Seniors who wish to test need to sign up in the counselor’s office.  
APRIL  
* The Continuing Education Office at Southeastern Oklahoma State University is offering an ACT prep course. Dates for the April ACT test are 2-26-12, 3-4-12 and 3-11-12. Dates for the June ACT test are 5-20-12, 5-27-12 and 6-3-12. Students will meet from 1:00p.m. - 4:30p.m. on the three scheduled dates. For more information or to enroll for these classes please call the Continuing Education Office at 580-745-2858.  
* Attention: Juniors & Seniors. Choctaw Nation Career Development is hosting their 2012 Career Expo in McAlester. For more information go to www.choctawcareers.com . The date is April 4, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  
MARCH  
* Students who will be in the 11th or 12th grade next year can apply to take classes at the Kiamichi Technology Center in Durant or Atoka. Career Pathway choices include – Automotive Service, Business Administration & Information, Computer & Networking, Construction Technology, Cosmetology, Early Care & Education, Welding, and Culinary Arts. Applications are available in the counselor’s office. Regular Application Deadline is March 1.  
 
COLLEGE VISIT INFORMATION FOR SENIORS  
 
* Murray State College in Tishomingo will be here during the lunches on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 to talk with seniors.  
* Choctaw Nation will be here on Wednesday, February 8 during the lunches to talk with Choctaw seniors regarding scholarships and available money for post-secondary education. ALL seniors with a Choctaw CDIB need to see the representative.  
 
CLUBS AND GROUPS INFORMATION  
 
* FCA will be meeting every Monday at 7 pm in the DHS commons.  
* Jazz Band I rehearsal will be every Tuesday at 7am and every Wednesday at 8pm.  
* Jazz Band II rehearsal will be every Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm.  
* Key Club meeting every Wednesday at 3:30 in the choir room # F100.  
* The Drama Club will be meeting the second Wednesday of every month. The meeting will be in Mrs. Worden’s room # 155 from 3:15pm – 4:00pm. February 8th will be the next meeting.  
* Show Choir practice will be every Thursday from 6:30 – 7:45pm.  
 
SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION  
 
You need to be making application and filling out scholarship forms for Colleges, Universities or technology schools that you are interested in attending. Deadlines for their scholarship applications are approaching fast. Lots of information can be found on the College/University/tech school website. Please stop to see Mrs. Kane or Mrs. Podany for further information. College visits are being scheduled during lunches. These dates are listed in the daily announcements so put them on your calendar.  
* KFC Colonel’s scholars are looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program. You must have a 2.75 GPA, plan to enroll and pursue a bachelor’s degree, be a U. S. Citizen or permanent resident and demonstrate financial need. Applications are available at www.kfcscholars.org . The deadline to apply is February 8, 2012.  
* The Sam Noble Scholarship for Agriculture and Technology is available in the counselor’s office. Students may also request for information at http://www.noble.org/Philanthropy/scholarship.html The application deadline is February 15, 2012.  
* The Oklahoma Engineering Foundation has a scholarship available. You must have a 3.0 GPA, ACT composite of at least a 24, ACT Math Component of 28 or above and be attending a major Oklahoma University. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2012. Applications can be found at www.ospe.org/scholarships  
* Applications are now open for the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program. Designed for students whose major field of study focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry. The application is online at www.buickachievers.com . The deadline to apply is February 29, 2012.  
* Southeastern Oklahoma State University: The general scholarship application deadline for Southeastern scholarships is March 1st. Information regarding all scholarship application can be found on the Southeastern website, www.SE.edu/Future-Students/scholarships .  
* Seniors may apply for the Ruiz 4 Kids Scholarship. Students must have a 3.0 GPA is applying to attend a college/university, and 2.5 GPA is applying to attend a trade school. You must also participate in extra-curricular activities and be a full-time student. Complete and print your application online at: www.ruiz4kids.org . The deadline to apply is March 9, 2012.  
* The Oklahoma City Gridiron Foundation awards scholarships to students who display qualities and potential to enhance the journalism profession in Oklahoma. The hope of the foundation’s members is to elevate the quality of the journalism profession in Oklahoma. Scholarship applications are available online at www.okcgridiron.org . Scholarship applications must be received by March 15, 2012.  
* If you are a Native American student and interested in attending BACONE COLLEGE in Muskogee, Ok please see Mrs. Kane for a scholarship nomination form. This form must be completed by April 1, 2012.  
* Kiwanis Senior of the Month Award application is available in the counselor’s office or you can download an application at: http://www.durantisd.org/high/dhs/index.htm The deadline to apply is April 1, 2012.  
* IFLURTZ scholarship applications are available at http://www.iflurtz.com/scholarships . The deadline to apply is July 30, 2012.  
* Applications for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship Program is available online at www.plumbersandpipefitters.com . Students will be interviewed after graduation.  
* Scholarships.com offers a free scholarship search. Their website is www.scholarships.com  
* Scholarship Deadlines are getting close. Please pay attention of the deadlines.
