Meet Tod Harrison
Greetings from Mr. Harrison
Greetings everyone,
Summer is here and work has begun to prepare for our upcoming school year. There have been a few changes at Durant Intermediate School. Two of our fourth grade teachers have been given the opportunity to become counselors in our district. Kim Podany will be at Durant High School and Rachel Shelton will be at Robert E. Lee. Although we will miss them dearly we wish them the greatest success in their new positions. As you probably know Mrs. Gosnell is now the principal at Northwest Heights. We are excited to announce that Mr. Aaron McCoy will be replacing her as our new Assistant Principal. Mr. McCoy comes to us from Durant High School where he has taught Biology. He is also a former district Teacher of the Year.
Our task this summer is to hire four of the best teachers possible to fill two fourth and two fifth grade vacancies. Planning is underway for the 2010-11 school year. I know parents and students will be anxious to know who their teachers will be as we get closer to the August 12 th start date. Schedules and teacher postings will be available on August 9 th.
It is important to know if you have not completed your child’s enrollment that every child must now provide proof of residency. This can be a copy of a utility bill in your name received at your address. If you do not live within the district boundaries you must obtain a transfer request from our district office.
Our orientation dates have been set. These meetings are designed to inform parents and students of procedures, rules, and general information pertaining to Durant Intermediate School. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. More information will be posted as these dates get closer. Sixth grade orientation will be on August 9 th at 6:00 p.m. Fifth grade will be on August 10 th at 6:00 p.m. Fourth grade will be on August 11 th at 6:00 p.m. These meetings will be held in the new gym on the corner of Washington and Chuckwa.
I hope that each of you have a wonderful summer. It is exciting to begin to think about our upcoming school year. Our offices will officially reopen on July 19 th. Have a great summer!
