The following is a letter to parents from the DMS staff about the rules and discipline procedure of the school:
Dear Parent,
We are happy your child enrolled in Durant Middle School this year. We are looking forward to a very productive year.
We believe that all of our students can behave appropriately in school. We will not allow any student to prevent a teacher from teaching or to keep other students from learning. In order to guarantee your child and all of our students an environment conducive to learning, the following Discipline Plan will be utilized.
Rules for a productive and positive learning environment
- Students will be on time to class and will follow directions.
- Students will bring all necessary materials.
- Students will stay in their seats and talk only with permission.
- Students will be courteous and respectful to others, keeping their hands, feet, and other objects to themselves.
- Students will move quietly in the halls, restrooms, and cafeteria.
The breaking of rules will result in the following consequences:
- 1st infraction
- Warning
- 2nd infraction
- Letter sent to parent or telephone conference
- 3rd infraction
- 30-minute detention (3:10-3:40) in room 127
- 4th infraction
- Referral to assistant principal
- Severe infraction
- Immediate referral to the assistant principal
